Upcoming Expedition: Tuamotus Archipelago

On our next trip, starting on the 15th of March, we will sail upwind to the Tuamotus Archipelago. Your true opportunity to get closer to nature, to feel the Pacific breeze in your hair, and to marvel at the million stars visible above, so far out on the sea, and so far away from any artificial lights. We will glide on the ocean for 4 full days to cover the distance of approximately 270 miles to the atoll of Tahanea, a marvelous turquoise speck in the Tuamotu archipelago.

The Atoll Experience

An atoll is a true miracle of nature, a coral reef fringed lagoon, created by volcanic activity. In the passes, you will see probably the most exciting show of wildlife you have ever experienced. Rays, different varieties of sharks, and sea mammals roam these passes at each tide, along with a myriad of different fishes, small and large.

If you are a certified SCUBA diver, in the Tuamotu Archipelago you will be able to rent equipment to experience the amazing diving this area has to offer.

Island Hopping

We will visit various atolls in the Tuamotu Archipelago as we sail East. Aside from Tahanea, we will stop at the atoll of Makemo, Hao, and others, depending on crew input and weather.

Return to the Leeward Islands

After a week or two amongst the Tuamotus, we will sail back to the marvelous Leeward Islands. After a 4-day passage from the Tuamotus, we will arrive at the Island of Huahine, about 750 kilometers to the west of our starting point in Fakarava.

From Huahine, we will sail down to the mythical Island of Raiatea, from where the famous Polynesian explorers set off to discover the islands of New Zealand. We will check out the Vanilla gardens and the hiking on the Island of Tahaa, amongst many other treasures of these islands.

Our trip will end around the 15th of April in Tahiti, Leeward Islands, a breathtaking volcanic island with direct international flights.
